The village was decked out in bunting, made from feed sacks and baler twine, cut up and stapled by teams of volunteers. Other teams, planned, cleaned, tidied, litter picked and cooked for the occasion.

The planting of the Commemorative Silver Jubilee tree. Mick Gaden, seen in the brown suit, was Parish Council Chairman at the time. He was a local farmer, in the fields behind the pub, supplied logs in the area, and was a Special Constable, assisting the Police Force. In addition, he found time for various prominent positions on local bodies, excelling in keeping the village together. He thus became affectionately known as the 'Mayor of Bourton'.

The Planting of the Silver Jubilee Tree The youngest and oldest village residents came to the tree planting. The baby is Joy Beasley. The lady hidden from view in the brown coat, Mrs Bruce, was the oldest member, standing next to her daughter in blue.

Two babies dressed for the fancy dress parade. One, Joy Beasley, the youngest resident in the village, is decked in red white and blue. The other, the son of John Sutherns, a prominent jockey, is dressed as a horse racer - he won the competition!

The Silver Jubilee celebrations culminated in a meal for everyone inside the Tythe Barn at Bourton House. Keith Beasley, a chef and resident of the village - in Cosy Cottage, prepared the feast.
